My Father, The Queen Screenplay is Semi-Finalist in BlkScript's Screenplay List

CYPRESS, TX., — PrettyWork Studios announced today that My Father, The Queen has been selected as a Semi-Finalist in the 2023 The BlkScript’s Inaugural Screenplay List. The screenplay was written by Lisa N. Alexander and is currently in pre-production with an anticipated release in 2024.

The screenplay won the best LGBT script from Best Script Award London in 2022 and the Cannes International Shorts in 2023.

“The recognition from BlkScript further validates the strength of this story,” said Alexander. “I can’t wait to bring it to audiences everywhere,” she continued.

My Father, The Queen is a semi-autobiographical Black daughter’s story of being raised by a closeted gay man during the 80s and 90s, the trauma they both endured and their path toward healing.

Recent press interviews reveal an audience with similar stories and an eagerness for this conversation to finally be had—especially from communities of color. “There are lots of stories from other queerspawn [children with at least one LGBTQ parent] but not many of them are from Black and Brown bodies,” said Alexander.

The finalists will be announced on December 1 and the overall winner on December 15.
